Meta periodically ends WhatsApp support for devices that are outdated hardware-wise and unlikely to run new versions. The company recently announced the models that will lose access to the application starting January 1, 2025.
Models Losing WhatsApp Support in 2025
Meta has decided to cease WhatsApp support for certain Samsung, Motorola, HTC, LG, and Sony models starting in 2025. To clarify, models running Android KitKat or earlier versions will no longer have access to the application as of January 1.
- Samsung: Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy Ace 3, Galaxy S4 Mini
- Motorola: Moto G (1st Gen), Razr HD, Moto E 2014
- HTC: One X, One X+, Desire 500, Desire 601
- LG: Optimus G, Nexus 4, G2 Mini, L90
- Sony: Xperia Z, Xperia SP, Xperia T, Xperia V
As mentioned above, the reason behind the company’s periodic withdrawal of support for older devices is WhatsApp’s evolving features. The platform continually introduces features that enhance user experience, which require modern hardware for optimal performance.
Similarly, Apple is facing a comparable situation. For iPhone models running iOS versions older than 15.1, WhatsApp support will be terminated in May 2025.
