Hyundai recently revealed its new electric model Ioniq V in official regulatory records, specifically designed for the Chinese market. Featuring an 800V electric architecture, this model boasts both fully electric and range-extended (EREV) powertrain options, playing a crucial role in the brand’s strategy for China.

The Ioniq V, listed in the latest catalog by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) of China, was unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2026. Built on the E-GMP platform, the Ioniq V stands out with its high-efficiency electric powertrain and 800V electric architecture.

Additionally, the vehicle features Momenta-assisted L2+ driving systems, dual AI model integration, and advanced connectivity technologies. Within this ecosystem, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 cockpit chip, CATL battery solutions, Baidu Wenxin’s large language model, and Volcano Engine infrastructure work in tandem.

In terms of design, the Ioniq V features an angular coupe form developed specifically for the Chinese market, stepping away from the SUV trend. With dimensions of 4900 mm in length, 1890 mm in width, and 1470 mm in height, it offers a spacious cabin with a 2900 mm wheelbase. While details on the powertrains are not yet clear, the fully electric version is said to provide a range of up to 600 kilometers.

Noteworthy design elements include frameless doors, aerodynamic wheels, semi-hidden door handles, and a continuous lighting signature. Inside, premium features such as a 27-inch ultra-slim 4K display, the “Cyber Eye” head-up display system, and advanced ambient lighting can be found. Hyundai emphasizes that this model has been tailored to meet the digital expectations of Chinese consumers.

The new Ioniq V is expected to enhance Hyundai’s performance in the Chinese market, particularly as the company’s current standing is quite weak. As of March 2026, sales dropped to 8,909 units, marking a 17.6% decline year-over-year, with market share remaining at 0.5%.
