In recent years, Anya Taylor-Joy has become a sought-after face in sci-fi and fantasy genres, lending her voice to Princess Peach in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, embodying a warrior hero in Furiosa, and appearing as Alia, Paul Atreides’ sister in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two. This time, she returns with a role that grounds her more firmly in reality. The first official trailer has been released for Apple TV’s mini crime series “Lucky,” adapted for television from the bestselling novel of the same name by successful author Marissa Stapley. The trailer showcases how Taylor-Joy’s character finds herself embroiled in a cat-and-mouse game after a million-dollar heist goes awry.
Caught between her professional criminal father and her elegant, senior federal agent mother-in-law, the reformed thief strives to leave her past behind and start anew, but finds herself at a dead end. Portraying a character trapped between issues with her father, the disappearance of her husband, and stolen millions, Anya Taylor-Joy prompts the question, “How can someone so small cause so much trouble?“
Created by Jonathan Tropper, known for successful projects like Banshee and See, this series has become a passion project for Anya Taylor-Joy. The cast also features rising stars such as Drew Starkey, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, and veteran actor Clifton Collins Jr. Blending adrenaline-filled action scenes, tension-packed family dramas, and the classic “one last job” theme of action films, Lucky is set to premiere on Apple TV on July 15.
