Toyota recently hinted at a new model through a single image shared on its social media platforms. This mysterious vehicle is speculated to be one of the brand’s three-row electric SUV models currently in development, though details remain unclear.

The shared image reveals the rear silhouette of a spacious SUV, featuring eye-catching two-stripe LED taillights that span the width of the vehicle. Additionally, roof rails and a shark fin antenna are visible. Toyota has provided no further information aside from the statement, “There’s something new on the horizon.”

Toyota has previously confirmed plans to introduce two new electric SUV models with three-row seating. This mysterious SUV may be one of those models, as the details shown in the image align closely with the previously presented Toyota “bZ Large” concept. The company has also stated that these vehicles will be produced in the U.S.

Although Toyota offers a range of high-riding SUVs, it currently lacks a competitor in the fully electric, family-friendly segment like the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9. With uncertainty surrounding the future of electric vehicles in the U.S., Toyota seeks to establish its presence in a market where large electric SUVs are gaining popularity.

There are indications that the new model may be named Toyota bZ5X, though no official statement has been made by the brand yet. Additionally, there is a slim possibility that the company might continue producing the Grand Highlander with a conventional engine while assigning the Highlander name to this electric model, especially since the Grand Highlander’s sales increased by 91% last year, whereas Highlander sales fell.
