Initially unveiled in 2024, this screen technology aims to provide a more scratch-resistant structure compared to the current Ceramic Shield glass. Reports indicate that Apple considered shelving this feature due to initial slow production rates. However, advancements in manufacturing techniques have led to sufficient efficiency for mass production, reviving the project.

The new screen will represent a first in reflection prevention, in addition to the already existing fingerprint-repellent oleophobic coating on the iPhone. Until now, Apple has utilized this type of coating solely on iPads and Mac displays.

This move by Apple follows the introduction of Samsung’s Gorilla Glass Armor technology in its latest flagship devices. Samsung’s new glass significantly reduces screen reflections by up to 75% and greatly enhances visibility in outdoor conditions. It’s no surprise that Apple is responding to these advancements similarly.

However, it’s worth noting that the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air models will not feature this new screen coating. The iPhone 17 series is expected to be launched in September 2025.
