.
Scheduled between October 24 and November 2, 2025, the festival will showcase the film, which has been digitized from a 35 mm copy by Fono Film and Anadolu Filmcilik. This special screening, organized in collaboration with Antalya Metropolitan Municipality and ANSET, is not just a film presentation but also serves as a unique memorial event dedicated to Şerif Gören’s cinema. The screening will be supported by an in-depth panel discussing the director’s work.
The screenplay, co-written by Şerif Gören and Ümit Ünal, tells the story of Şeref, who escapes from prison and travels to America, only to confront a vastly different Turkey upon his return 20 years later. The hero, returning to his homeland clad in a cowboy hat and Dallas boots, finds himself alienated even in his own country.
Starring Şener Şen and Lale Mansur, “Amerikalı” achieved significant success upon its release in 1993, surpassing one million viewers and winning the “Best Editing” award at the Golden Orange that same year. One of the film’s producers, Ömer Vargı, will serve as the jury president at this year’s festival.
