Disney+, yeni bir Death Stranding anime projesi için kolları sıvadı.
Death Stranding universe is being transformed into an anime series thanks to Disney+. Developer Hideo Kojima will serve as the executive producer, while the series will be directed by Takayuki Sano, an animator known for works like Jujutsu Kaisen 0 and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. As you may know, the Death Stranding franchise is the first original brand by Kojima Productions, led by Hideo Kojima, the creator of Metal Gear Solid. With the release of the sequel, On the Beach, this post-apocalyptic “connection” game has garnered a massive following among PlayStation fans. Its star-studded cast, including names like Norman Reedus, has certainly contributed to its fantastic visual presentation and narrative storytelling.
A few months ago, Kojima announced a film adaptation inspired by Death Stranding and an anime film project in collaboration with A24. Now, it seems there’s another project in the works… specifically for the Disney Plus platform.
Death Stranding Isolations announced: Coming to Disney+ in 2027
During the ongoing Disney APAC Showcase event in Hong Kong, Disney officially announced the Death Stranding Isolations project, confirming its release as a 2D hand-drawn anime in 2027. The animation will be handled by E&H production, led by Jujutsu Kaisen director Sunghoo Park, and will be directed by Takayuki Sano, who has worked on notable titles such as Attack on Titan, Banana Fish, and Promare. A summary shared by Deadline reads as follows:
“Set in the same world as the games, Death Stranding Isolations follows Sam Bridges’ attempt to save America and those who are trying to solve their own isolations by their means.”
“An old man tries to find salvation through ways outside of the connections Bridges advocates for. A female warrior seeks to create a world fraught with conflict. A young boy harbors a grudge against Bridges, while a girl embraces her solitude. At the brink of humanity and the world’s end, another Death Stranding story begins as their fates and hopes intertwine.”
Hideo Kojima, who is serving as the executive producer, also attended the Disney APAC Showcase. Speaking on behalf of the team, Kojima remarked:
“I grew up loving Japanese anime, which shaped my worldview. I’ve been a Disney fan since childhood and was delighted to have my documentary featured on their platform. When they reached out, I decided to collaborate with them.”
Interestingly, this won’t be the only Death Stranding anime we see. An animated film titled Death Stranding: Mosquito, produced by ABC Animations, is also currently in development. However, Sam Porter Bridges, as far as we know, will be featured in Isolations, not Mosquito. As we move into the new year, we’ll likely hear more about both projects, but at least we got a glimpse of the production through the artwork showcased above.
