AMD’s 3D V-Cache lineup for laptops is set to expand. A recent leak suggests that the company plans to introduce X3D technology, previously limited to high-end models, into more affordable gaming laptops. The latest leak features the Ryzen 7 9800HX3D, based on the Zen 5 architecture with a significant L3 cache.

8 cores and 96 MB L3 cache

According to reliable sources like Golden Pig Upgrade, AMD initially intended to launch the new processor under the name Ryzen 7 9755HX3D but later changed it to Ryzen 7 9800HX3D. The Ryzen 7 9800HX3D features an 8-core, 16-thread configuration, with a clock speed of up to 5.1 GHz and 96 MB of L3 cache (3D V-Cache).

Although the processor has fewer cores compared to the 12-core Ryzen 9 9850HX model, the larger L3 cache may provide advantages, especially in gaming. Currently, AMD’s lineup only includes the Ryzen 9 9955HX3D as the sole X3D offering for laptops, which features 16 cores, 32 threads, and 128 MB of L3 cache and is typically used in high-end gaming laptops priced over $2,000.

The Ryzen 7 9800HX3D is expected to find its place in mid-range and premium gaming laptops thanks to its lower cost, allowing the X3D technology to reach a broader audience.

Production may begin by the end of 2026

According to leaks, AMD plans to start mass production of the Ryzen 7 9800HX3D in the fourth quarter of 2026. While the processor could be introduced by the end of the year, the more likely scenario points to an official announcement at CES 2027.

AMD’s desktop X3D processors have achieved significant success in gaming performance due to their large L3 caches in recent years. However, Intel still maintains a strong position in the laptop market. While the Ryzen 7 9800HX3D may not alter this balance significantly on its own, more affordable X3D laptops could disrupt the market dynamics.
